Getting back into the Swing of Things...

Hi All!

Per our discussion in class, it is expected that you will read the long prompts and grade them according to the AP scale for that particular prompt. Write down the name of the prompt ( I believe they are A, B, and C) and the grade. You can also add a comment or two about why you scored them that way. As soon as I have all the grades in I will tell you the actual grades so you can rewrite yours accordingly.

Also, starting in January, we will be doing the Question of the Week (QOW) again. This is a homework grade so make sure you keep checking in.

Have a great vacation...I'll see you on the other side!

woohoo first one which means i cannot copy anybody's answers =P

A: 3 - it was way too much plot summary.
B: 8 - good part to whole concept and gave just the right amount of summary and explanation. at first i thought 7 but this essay is really good!
C: well you said that if the judge doesn't know the novel they usually pass it on to someone who has. so i pass it on to you, mischley... yeah it was not a good essay.. maybe a 5? it didn't flow the way B did.

=)

mischley! its only saturday and i miss you already! hahaha 143 molly by the by...i think she miiiight be the cutest baby ever invented (other than ben wilder of course) ok ok heres my grades:
A - 4 because (like turner said) there was a whooooole bunch of summary and not enough part of whole analysis
B - 7 because there was more analysis but it wasnt brilliantly written. it was really simple but i dont think it was a 6 because it was a "better developed analysis"
C - 4 because although the writer knew what they were talking about, there really wasnt anything to the essay. it was almost like she only had 10 minutes to write it and put down whatever she could think of. a little analysis, but there was like one instance which isnt enough at all.

alrighty then, now that i have officially written a novel on this blog i am going to wrap presents! happy holidays everybody!

Hi Mischley ! I finally got around to posting this. I hope I'm able to log in more than once this time .. unlike last year.

For prompt A, I graded it as a 4 because I didnt find much evidence of how the past affected Jane's current life in the essay. It was mostly summary

Prompt B was the better of the thee but I only gave it a 6 because I thought there should have been more examples or explaining.

Prompt C got a 4 as well since it was awkward and didn't really answer the question.

Merry Christmas =)

P.S. I just started to read the Metamorphisis book and it's pretty creepy.

Hi!

A-5
B-6
C-6

I know these scores are higher than what most people gave, but I was trying to remember to give them points for what they did well rather than taking points away for what they did wrong...or is it the other way around? Ugh, I sound like Alice.

welll. these were nice.

A- 4
maybe its just me, but i didnt really agree with the use of the term "imprissonment" when talking about jane and rochester. i thought it was a little extreme, and overall too much summary.
B- 5
again, way too much summary and they spent a whole essay just talking about gatsby's money. other examples would have been nice.
C- 4
this one seemed to try too hard to say that they were relating it back to the main point, but it ended up just filling up space and not adding much to the essay.

happy new years eve everyonee!

Okay..while we are still missing some people, I figuredI'd put these in so the rest of you can double-check. We can discuss the reasonings behind the grades when we get back if you'd like, but for now... A=7, B=5, C=3.

So, how far off were you, can you see why they scored as they did, can ya, huh, can ya????

The funny thing is that I have the repuatation for being a hard teacher, yet you all are much harder than me!!

umm of course I would think I was all ahead of the game reading all my books and realize today that I forgot this thing. well here it goes:

A~5 it incorporated part to whole but it also had unnecessary. summary info.
B~3 not developed, a little repetitious
C~2 I have no idea what happened in the past to affect the present actions

hey everyone! sorry, i'm late for everything in case you didn't notice. :P

Prompt A: i gave it a seven because i felt that it had more effort and thought put into it than the other two. The writer took one experience and illustrated how it affected the rest of Jane's life. Overall, i felt that they were more eloquent.

Prompt B: I gave this one a six because they described how Gatsby's love affected the rest of his life. There were many valid examples. However, this person's writing was not as refined.

Prompt C: Five because it gave a clear example, yet seemed to focus one this one example throughout the entire essay. There should have been more analysis and less plot. Also, it was concise, but not in a good way. P.S. I watched "a streetcar named desire" with wilder in theater class two years ago. it was good because marlon brando was in it :D.

<33, enjoy the rest of vacation, everyone!, triciaaa.

alright, i gave up on my old blogger and made a new one=)

A: 3- it was allll plot summary. it had barely any analysis and was not mature in diction or even in content.

B: 5- Although this essay was much better than A, the analysis was a tad underdeveloped and not as complete as an 8 or 9 would be.

C- haven't read the novel, but once again....a 3. because it just was not very successful in "connecting the dots" so to speak, and it just wasn't good.

=)

Okay better late than ever. I thought those stores were as follows
A- 2 that was pure CRAP!! It was mostly summary.
B- 4 it was alright but well it needs work
C-3 Needs work. I guess i am the only one that judged these harshly.

Big surprise there!
