Question of the Week #6

Hello APers....

I know... I can't believe it either... I actually put up a QOW ahead of time...relax the world is not ending...the polar ice caps haven't melted completely... yet (pause a moment and bow your head for the penguins, people, it's all about the penguins.)

In an efort to be more efficient , I have decided to take on the personality traits of someone who is punctual, practical, and doesn't procrastinate...an accountant. They are no nonsense individuals who file things on time and know exactly where everything belongs...I, on the other hand, lose my train of thought all of the time...Choo-choo!! Dare I dream to change my profession to one where deadlines are strict and exactness is key?

NAH....I'd be bored and I'm pretty sure the IRS wouldn't find my sarcastic wit nearly as enjoyable as you nuts do...yes, McCole, I'm talking to you!

So, this lead me to the next QOW....choose a character from any work we've read during high school and tell me what an alternate career for him/her would be and why. I pick Roger from LOTF as serial killer becuase ...well...he's a wee bit off his block....or he could make toothpicks..tiny little sticks sharpened at both ends...the gift that keeps on giving.

I think Abby from The Crucible would be an actress. She seemed to be very good at putting on an act and making whoever her audience was believe her.

What is this with the Crucible people. Gees, we need to move on and forget that we ever read that book. Although L. Keith you make a very good point. I think that Al Joad from Grapes of Wrath would grow up to be a mechanic. He really loves cars and seems to know a decent amount about how to fix them already.

Jay Gatsby from The Great Gatsby could be a party planner because of the lavish and extreme parties he throws weekly at his house. He knows how to make guests happy and knows what a celebration needs.

I think that Lennie from Of Mice and Men would be a great vet.... oh wait just kidding maybe if he kicked his animal killing habit.

Maybe he would be better working as a storyteller for little children. He could tell them all about his dreams of the farm.

I think Nora from A Dolls House would be a stripper. She has a mysterious attitude as if she had some alternate ego and she is done with her husband, so she can go out and be free to do as she wishes.

Jane would make a great therapist. I feel that she experienced so much throughout her life since she was a child that she would be the perfect person for someone to talk to if something was wrong. Jane had to deal with a crazy and controlling aunt, leaving the one she loved, living on her own and so much more. Jane would probably give great advice to others.

this one puzzled me...

i guess grendel would make a really good professional hunter, like one that kills all the deer that people eat. i dont know, he would do well in the meat industry (as long as he didnt eat all of it that was packaged)

I'm gonna go ahead and say that Ethan Frome could just be Ben Stein...and do whatever Ben Stein does....do I even need to say why?

Estella would most likely be a high fashion model because she is described as being so beautiful. This would be the perfect job for her because she doesn't want to settle down and she can have all the men that she wants. I could also see her getting hooked on drugs of some sort trying to stay skinny and perfect.

Jane Eyre would be an EMT because she saved Rochester on the road. Her ambulance would be a horse because thats what she used to save Rochester.

First off, I love Britt's response =) Well, I'd have to say that Holden from A Catcher in the Rye would be a movie director. Directors have to be a bit eccentric in order to picture something that they would like to portray on camera. He seems like he'd be able to think of many different scenarios. Since he can never stay occupied long, a director's job would be perfect because they are constantly doing something different.

Some of you have scary ideas....

I think that Joe would be a great guidance councilor. Everything from him just seems real and genuine, and his heart is hugeee.
I think he would really be able to make kids feel safe and like they had someone they could talk to and trust.

Alice would be a drug dealer since she has so much experience with them. No one would suspect a blonde, blue-eyed, twelve-year-old girl of such a seedy task.

i think beneatha from a raisin in the sun would be a womens rights activist because she is all about women and being independent! she want to be a doctor and her fam doesnt want her to be....=[

Rodger would be a good contract killer. Maybe he could put out an ad on Craigslist. He's nuts-o like that, so he'd have relatively no qualms about it. And his alias could be "Piglet" or something in memory of Piggy.
