Question of the Week #5

I like big books and I cannot lie...you other brutha's can't deny...when a book walks in with an itty-bitty spine and is rhyming line by line...you get (not really sure what to put here that is even slightly appropriate)....baby got Book....

Yea, baby! I love my books...have a ton of them by the way....some are falling apart I have read them so many times...Macbeth is about to lose it and my orignal Jane Eyre was held together by duct tape at one point...left my Great Expectations out in the rain in Georgia ( hey, y'all!!) while my original copy of Lord of the Flies still has the faint smell of suntan lotion all over it....I bring them everywhere...I would read them in a box with a fox, in the rain on a train, and in a house with a mouse...I would read them here or there, I would read them anywhere....they are like my children...well they would be if my children were quiet...so many to choose...which one do I pick????

With that in mind, if you could only have one book to keep, which one would you choose and why?

Ok, I'm gonna assume that this question is asking for a book that we've read in school because otherwise I think we all know what I'd pick...
So out of the books we've read I would pick The Adventures of Alice in Wonderland because there is so much to discover in that book and it is just so clever and entertaining. The wordplays and crazy twists and turns would keep me busy.
Either that or The Crucible because if I ever got bored I could always leap up from my chair and act it out. :-)

I love this question! I would pick Jane Eyre hands down. It's pretty much the ultimate love story, but it's not one of those cheesy romance novels with some guy named Fabio on the cover because Jane is such a strong character. She was still able to prove herself as an independent woman. Plus it took me like 4 days to read and it took me over a month to read Grapes of Wrath if that's any indication of how much I love it :-P

Liz Crawford, no The Crucible (dare i even type the name) is a horrible book that needs to be gone!!!!!! This question would be so much easier for me if it were "Which book would you not want?" I would have to say Catcher in the Rye. I enjoyed reading that book and all the crazy things that Holden (or Horten for Em) gets himself into.

A Christmas Carol would be the book that I keep because through all the talk about changing the name of the traditional holiday no one can change the name of the book. And Christmas is the best holiday because automatic vaca for yours truly on his birthday =].

I would pick Great Expecations because overall it really tells alot about human character and morality. I think it would be a great book to go back and read when there are important decisions in life to be made because it reminds me of the importance of loyalty and family.

I would keep Preide and Prejudice because i love that book. It is entertaining and makes me happy. I wouldnt want my only book to be sad and depressing, because then i would be sad and depressing.

If i had to pick a book to keep it would probably be "the Hobbit." This is probably one of the first books that i actually enjoyed and didnt have to force myself to get through it. I thought it was interesting and it wasnt one of the forced reads.

I would probably have to say Jane Eyre. Overall its just a great story with a strong character for Jane, could not put the book down when I was reading it.

P.S. Not going to lie, I'm with Liz Crawford and would probably pick exactly what she's talking about =) (sorry mischley!)

I am an avid book lover as well, therefore this question proves difficult for me to answer. However, if I must to pick one book, I would choose.....The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. I absolutely love the plotline. Even though the novel reminds me of innocent childhoos, the main themes are very developed and are very telling of life lessons.

Resident Evil, Max? Interesting choice.....and what would Crawford pick? I have no clue (though I'm feeling like I should.)

if i could keep a book it would be The Adventures of Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn because i love mark twain. his stories about childhood are adorable and set in scenic mississippi. not to mention that it reminds me of tom sawyer's island in disney world.

either that or ethan frome, another book that i loved simply because it was a scandelous love story. DON'T TOUCH THAT PICKLE DISH! (can't you just feel the scandel in that??)

p.s. crawford and julie are talking about harry potter. :D

FIRST OF ALL, mischley....did you seriously say that you like big books and you cannot lie??? you = the biggest geeeeeeek haha =]

well lets answer the question. i would pick a thousand splendid suns by khaled hosseini (he also wrote the kite runner) at first the book mad me really sad because so many horrible things happen to the two women in the book but then by the end you see the happiness that each of them come by and why it is so much more meaningful and important due to all of the bad things that happened. i recommend this book like wooooooooaaaaahhhhhh! =]

I would keep A Reason for Hope by Jane Goodall because she is my idol. Its just a book filled with her thoughts of wisdom and her view of the world as a person who thinks about everything with respect to the environment. And I feel like its a book you should reread every so often to keep that perspective.

P.S. Laura makes me laugh ("one of those cheesy romance novels with some guy named Fabio")

I think I'm probably the last one to answer this question because I totally forgot about the blog until you reminded us in class yesterday :-P
Anyways... I would probably choose to keep Great Expectations because it was the only book I read this summer that didn't make me want to fall asleep, besides The Diagnosis, and it contains overall good life lessons that everyone should learn
