Post #6... Part Deux!!!! The Sequel!!!

Hello!

I was flipping through the TV channels and realized how many sequels are out there. Some are awesome (Aliens, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan, Chipmunks..the Squeekual). However, many are just so baaaaddddd.  Let's see...I Know What You Did Last Summer Again, The Matrix Reloaded, Caddy Shack II, Staying Alive...yes, I realize you have no idea what half of these are, but I have been scarred by the atrocities found within these films and feel it would be an injustice to all to keep quiet any longer.

Getting back to the point, I started to think about books with sequels such as Alice Through the Looking Glass, Harry Potter and such. If some of these sequels turned into such classics, why aren't there more sequels out there?

I think it would be awesome to read "Boo...My Life as a CIA Operative" where we learn that Boo Radley wasn't really a prisoner in his own house but really a CIA operative stomping out racial injustice throughout the world. The whole gentle giant image was a sham as he was stealthy and killed Mr. Ewell with one fatal blow to the jugular as Scout was rolling around in her ham suit. No one being the wiser, he was the man the presidents called when they needed a hush-hush assassination across country lines. What better disguise than a mild mannered simpleton? Scout in her determination to understand Boo begins to uncover his secret identity and Boo is faced with the biggest decision of his life: kill Scout before she knows too much and blows his cover or bring her into the CIA fold.....OMG..this would be AWESOME!!!!! I would totally read this.

Sorry, I got excited for a moment...anyways...what novel do you think needs a sequel and what would it be about? Be creative as I am testing your levels of creativity and imagination. Dazzle me....you can do it! [Insert jazz hands here]

Enjoy!

To be completely honest, I am somewhat alarmed you came up with that plot right on the spot... is there something we should know, Ms. Mischley?

Hmm... a book that needs a sequel. I think The Diagnosis would need a sequel. The book kinda had a cliff-hangery ending anyway. I feel like the sequel would chronicle Bill's death, perhaps with an autopsy of him to see what his actual "diagnosis" was. It would be found out that he had suspicious virus, and Bill's son Alex decides to further investigate it. The novel would chronicle both the effects of Bill's death on Alex as well as his quest for the truth. Melissa would make an appearance as well, as the grieving widow. With a plot twist, it is revealed that Melissa and the professor concocted a plan to gradually kill Bill so they could be together. Alex finds this out and must choose between getting justice for his dad or keeping the only family he has left.

Oh and by the way, Jaws 4 is the worst sequel to ever be made. The shark suddenly has the ability to ROAR when it doesn't have vocal chords... enough said.

Great expectations needs a sequel! just kidding...

but I would request that Catcher in the Rye should have a sequel. It would continue Holden's life after his time in the ward. Would he again live a normal life? Of course not, because that would be boring. He would probably grow to have a job he was not good at and become very hostile with adults. His aspect of "phony" people would still exist, and Im sure he would be in and out of hospitals to try and cure his illness (poor Holden). He would most likely stay in New York city and maybe begin a hobby such as feeding the ducks or visiting museums. The major change in the story is that he meets a girl with problems as well (I lovee cute things like this) and they would not have children together. I know this seems like a sad story but it would obviously be more interesting than a few books I've read before..

In the end I think the readers should find out that someone else tells the story instead of Holden

but I won't tell you who :)

A book that I think needs a sequel would be John Grisham's A Time to Kill. It's about a twelve year old African American girl who gets raped and tortured by two Caucasian males, but still lives by a miracle. The father kills one of the men but has to go to trial for murder. Luckily, the father has a realy good attorney who wins him the trial.
In the sequel I picture that the young African American girl would be grown up and become a teacher of some sort. The same tragic event that happened to her a time ago would happen to one of her students and she would have to reminise in time to the same horrid memories in order to help her student get through. Also, she would make a campaign to fight for African Americans' rights and racism.

Okay so there are a ton of books out there that I think would have a great sequel. One that I think would be really interesting is Dear John, by Nicholas Sparks. I know this story's kind of played out by now but I feel like a sequel that tells the story from Savannah's point of view would help the audience to better understand why she did what she did. I know that in the letter she sent to John we all heard what she could convey through a letter to John about why she made the decision to move on but I personally was left feeling really angry and hurt at the fact that she left John. However, if we heard the story through Savannah's thoughts, I know I would feel differently. I think that with stories like Dear John you need to tell what goes down from both sides so that you understand why the other person did what they did.

PS.
I just want to point out the fact that it's I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer. They weren't even that much worse then the original. I mean the original was pretty bad but it's a classic.

If I could pick any book to have a sequel, it would probably have to be Great Expectations. There is not any other books that I have read that can be turned into sequels. This would be a good sequel because we can find out if Pip and Estella end up together and Estella change her cold- hearted ways. Or maybe Joe and Biddy try and stop Pip from being with Estella. Or even Joe and Biddy's son end up being a criminal like Compeyson. The possibilities are endless.

By the way, I really wish this was facebook so I could like Alex's post.

One book that needs a sequel is The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The Great Gatsby just ended abruptly without giving you any insight to what happens with Tom, Daisy and Nick. A sequel could have been written just on Tom and Daisy's relationship. As he did many times, i would have to believe that in this sequel Tom would continue to cheat on Daisy. But the real question is, does Daisy cheat on Tom again? We all know that Daisy's relationship with Gatsby was a little different because they were in love before he went to war. But will Daisy cheat on Tom again? Will she cheat just to smite him? We may never know since no sequel has been written.

water for elephants could be a sequel- the son and daughter could become detectives to find out who really killed the ring leader. they findout who really did it and also that their dad is involoved in it. He wanted to be with the circus leader so he killed him.

There is something seriously wrong with this weeks post. Mrs. Mischley, no more "sugar" for you.
Anyways, the book I would choose to make a sequel (and probably ruin) would be Animal Farm. Id make it have a Cold War thing where there is a huge war between the farm animal and Bald Eagles. Snowball will come back looking for revenge on the piggies. Yeah it be epic and this time there would nuclear War and Fallout 3 would happen.

I completely agree with Alyssa in the notion that The Catcher in the Rye needs a sequel!! But here is how my version would go. Holden would grow up and live a 'normal' life in the suburbs with his wife Pam and two kids, Jake and Sandra. He would have graduated college, with a degree in law. His firm would be well know for their efforts in fighting for the right causes. Then one day, Holden would snap. He would board a train to New York and spend three days there. The journey would be highlighted with concerned voice mail messages from his wife. He would live free, then on the third day, he would return back to Suburbia and the normalcy of his life.

To start things off I have chosen a really generic book that we were forced to read for a grade in school because most of the books I like have sequels because they are that good. So I have chosen the Outsiders since my brother has recently done a project on it. The sequel will show how Ponyboy gets past the death of his friend of who considers a part of his family. He becomes a champion boxer that honors every win of his to his brothers and his friends. From this he learns what it means to be famous and rich and he does not allow the money to change him. He eventually meets the girl of his dreams because she is rich yet she treats the poor as equals unlike the Socs. The ending would have Ponyboy win a final champion match against a person named Bradley. Bradley has had money his whole life and he is arrogant and treats Ponyboy not as a worthy opponent but scum. Of course Bradley bribes teh referee but regardless Ponyboy comes through.

I think The Last Song by Nicholas Sparks needs a sequel because I think it needs to follow Ronnie and her boyfriend Will’s live after the death of her father. The sequel would follow them into their college life and how living in two different schools in the city has changed them both. They are trying to hold onto to their relationship with all their feeling they have left for each other. It will be sad, tragic, and it will end happy, like all of Nicholas Sparks novels. In the end, they will probably get through this rough patch in their relationship and have a stronger love for each other after. Or will they?

I would kind of like there to be a sequel to Great Expectations. I really want to know what happens with Pip and Estella after the leave the garden and go their seperate ways. Do they find eachother again later on and end up together? Do Joe and Biddy stay together and/or have children? What is in the future for Herbert? These are questions that should be answered in a sequel. Plus there are not really any other books that I have read that I can think of as needing a sequel at the moment. This was the first one that came to mind.

If I were to write a sequel to a novel it would have to be a sequel to the graphic novel 300 by Frank Miller. Although the epic story of 300 is based off of true historical events, I believe it would be extremely cool to write a sequel which would be non-canonical to all history textbooks. At the end of 300, King Leonidas and all of the other Spartans are slain by the arrows of the Persian army of Xerxes. Or so the history books say. The rest of the Spartan Army marches upon the forces of Xerxes at Thermopylae. However, when they get there, Leonidas is still alive. He is pierced with many arrows and covered in blood, but he is still alive. He lies in a field covered with the corpses of many Persian soldiers who he had slain. Apparently, he had come back to life after being killed by the rain of arrows. He truly is a "Son of Hercules". Leonidas then leads his Spartans to fight the forces of Xerxes. When Xerxes sees that Leonidas is alive, he becomes so enraged as to descend from his throne to fight the Spartan King mono y mono. The two fight long and hard, but eventually, Leonidas manages to pierce Xerxes' heart with one of the arrows lodged in his body. Then all the Spartans go back to Sparta. And they do... Spartan stuff. Yeah. Spartan stuff, that sounds right.

I would want the Twilight books to have sequels. The author of the books started to write the Twilight books in the perspective of Bella instead of Edward, but she did not get very far into writing it. I have read all the books and still thought it was interesting to hear the same story told by the other main character. I would love to read Bella's side of what happened through out the story. All he know is what Edward is thinking. It would be cool to see the author retold all the stories with a different point of view. Bella is not like normal people, most people would not date someone who is a vampire, so it would be nice to see what was going through her head the whole time.

I believe that Animal Farm by our good friend George Orwell needs a sequel.

Since Animal Farm is essentially historical fiction, just with animals instead of people... I would want the sequel to have the same plot dynamic.

Here's what I'm thinking...

The pigs continue to rule over the entire farm while trying to convince everyone on the farm that they are not in control. A rival farm takes notice of the farms corruption and decides to step in. With an army of organized animals, the rival farm begins to out all the Pig leaders for their corrupted ideals while swaying all the members of the farm to abandon the Pig's set of ideals and realize that they too are deserving of a choice and a voice in their lives and community. The novel would end in the containing of the Pig's ideas and the liberation of all the farm animals who felt repressed.

So.. historically speaking, we're talking about the Vietnam War and the U.S.'s containment ideal. Since Animal Farm is based around the Third Reich and the spread of Communism, this novel would flow through on the history aspect. The rival farm here represents the United States and their spread of democracy in Vietnam. The Pig's in this novel are the North Vietnamese with their Communist rule over the South while the South fights for democracy and freedom.

That's like 100 years of history from the mouths of talking farm animals.... It's perfect.

I'm at a loss for a title though. I don't want it to be cheesy, like, Animal Farm: The Fall of The Pig Empire... For now let's just go with Animal Farm 2.

I think it could easily become a best seller.

I really liked the book The Perks of Being a Wallflower and I would definately read a sequel to it. The sequel would finally reveal the person whom Charlie wrote all the letters to. Also, it would reveal all the real names since Charlie used fake names to protect people's real identities. The book would update the readers on how Charlie is doing after getting more counseling and getting through the rest of his teenage years. Charlie and Sam would have to be an official couple. Because all of his friends have graduated and moved on to college, Charlie would have to make new friends at school so the book could get into some many different stroies about the rest of his high school career. His family would also have to deal with the truth about what happened to Charlie when he was little, so Charlie could get into the stories about how it affected his family, whether it brought them closer or if he still felt kind of alone. The Perks of Being a Wallflower ended with unanswered questions and it definately has potential to have a good sequel.

John Steinbeck's novel The Grapes of Wrath needs a sequel because the ending is unforgivable. Instead of Tom just disappearing, the sequel should bring a focus on what happens after he leaves his family to develop into someone who devotes their life to the greater good. It would be interesting to see how he controls his violent tendencies and struggles to focus on other people. It would have more adventures centered on Tom and the stories of the people living in the Hoovervilles. Also, we should see how Rose of Sharon lives with herself after the last scene, would she be scared for life and how would the relationship be between her and Ma. The book would also show how Al's life would be married and if Rose of Sharon's ex ever comes back.

I completely agree with Becky on the fact that Grapes of Wrath needs a sequel. It was an alright book and I really wanted to know how things turned out for the family but it just cut it off with a bad ending. I mean does the family make enough money to pay for food.? Do the rest of them survive or do some die of heat or malnutrition? What happened to Tom? The story deffinatly needs a sequel to answer all of my questions!

A book that needs a sequel is On Her Majesty's Secret Service by Ian Fleming. It is one of the original James Bond novels that inspired the film series. There were a few James Bond novels written after this one, which are sequels, but I want a direct sequel. The reason for this is because at the end of On Her Majesty's Secret Service, James Bond's wife is killed in a drive-by hours after their wedding. And he pretty much does nothing. The sequel would pick up right where this one ended, and James Bond would hunt down the guy that killed his wife right away, instead of waiting and accidentally finding the guy in Japan in a later sequel.

I think that The Great Gatsby needs a sequel discussing the real life and motives of Wilson throughout the story.
Alright so the book follows Wilsons behind the scenes actions and his connection to a mercenary agency that stalk and take out drug kingpins and other high stake people for a certain price. Wilson would act as a simple mechanic but secretly be spying on Gatsby and plant taps on his phone lines. This is all because Gatsbys bootlegging bussines is taking away from other sellers profits and they want him dead. So he follows the plan working with government resources and stages Myrtles death in order to have a believable story for finally taking him out. But theres a twist because he thinks hes going to kill Gatsby then leave, but when he kills Gatsby he sees a red dot on him and he is killed and its made to look like a suicide. This would be the end of the book because the last remaining witness to Gatsby's real reason for dying died with Wilson, and no one is none the wiser.

I would be really impressed if Edith Wharton could pull off a sequel for Ethan Frome. It begins with Ethan, Zeena and Mattie siting, filled with despondency, inside their rotting house. Soon enough (after three chapters of long, boring details) a man shows up at their house claiming to have technology from the future. Interested, Ethan accepts the man's request to be a guinea pig for a robotic leg and anti-age serum he has designed. The leg works and Ethan leaves Zeena and Mattie to fend for themselves in the old house. (not sure what year this takes place but...) It turns out this man is working for S.H.E.I.L.D. and Stark Industries and hires Ethan to be a super soldier to fight in wars, after giving him the secret super soldier serum. Having mad connections with Stan Lee, Edith is able to get the rights to Captain America and has Ethan become this famed superhero in her novel Ethan Frome: Reloaded. The End.

I think the Diagnosis would need a sequel. No one really knows what happens to Bill at the end of the novel, and it's very frustrating to not know what happens with him, his wife, or his son. Perhaps in the sequel we could find out about his wife's scandalous internet pen pal. This book needs a sequel so the audience can find out Bill's diagnosis, and whether its reversible, or he is going to die. It would be interesting to see the diagnosis of his illness and the effect it leaves on Alex. Alex had a very rough time with this whole situation and I think a sequel would give a good opportunity for Alex to talk about his feelings more in depth.

I dislike these post because I'm running out of books and creativity.

Ok, sooo....

Beowulf dies after slaying the dragon with Wiglaf. Now the country needs a new leader as strong and brave as Beowulf was. Wiglaf, being the only brave person to stay with Beowulf and slay the dragon, would obviously become the new leader. He becomes so extremely egotistical for slaying the dragon that he even begins to think that he was better than Beowulf. That is until the dragon's babies hatch from the cave..let's say five of them... and destroy the entire country. Wiglaf is a fool.
This is the perfect time for Beowulf's unknown daughter to reveal herself and slay all the dragons with her bare hands!

Just kidding, that's against epic hero rules. :(

If i would make a sequal for any book that i have read i would choose Catcher in the Rye. I make a new book that focuses on Holden's sister. It would focus on how she sees her brother after he gets kicked out of his latest school and their parents reaction. It would then change to a series of letters from Holden at his new school in Up State New York. He would tell her a series of stories about his new adventures and his ultimate visit with the girl that he cared the most for.

If there was a sequel to Grendel, then it’d have to be on Queen Wealhtheow. She was married off to King Hrothgar as a peace offering from her brother, but everyone knows that her brother secretly wants to destroy Hrothgar, right? Turns out that Grendel’s mom was an experiment, created by an alchemist working under Queen Wealhtheow’s brother’s kingdom to create an undefeatable army to take over the world. As for Grendel? He’s some super freak disaster gone wrong, half human, half beast and he was shunned from society and sent off to live his ‘mom’. The dragon, who sparks Grendel’s personality change, is actually a hallucination, who is controlled by Wealhtheow’s brother’s evil scientists. However, Grendel and his mother are destroyed by Beowulf, and Wealhtheow’s kingdom gives up on creating super human beasts as long as Beowulf’s around to kill them. On the other hand, Queen Wealhtheow, who appears to be a charming beautiful young lady, is Plan B, and her ultimate mission is to kill Hrothgar. She trains her sons to be assassins and she has a secret affair with Hrothgar’s first son from another woman. In the end, Hrothgar finds out about this secret plan and has Beowulf annihilate his entire kingdom. And Hrothgar lives sad and alone in the meadhall for the rest of his life. –Sam Chan

Obviously Freddy and the French Fries: Fries Alive needs a sequel. The french fries need to become an R&B group that can blow things up with their minds. Also, Freddy becomes a Nascar driver and an astronaut. The french fries go platinum and the fame goes to their heads. In the end, the only french fry that lives is the curly fry. He soon pursues a solo career but does not sell many CD's. It's a sad sequel really.

A book that I think is in need of a sequel is Animal Farm. The sequel would consist of the new generation of animals rebelling against the pigs. Unexpectedly, Boxer was able to escape the horse slaughterer and regain his health. He comes back to Animal Farm to learn that it has been named Manor Farm once again. He is angered by what Napoleon and others have done and feels betrayed. He secretly holds meetings for the other animals and teaches them to read and also begin plans for a rebellion.

The day finally comes and they launch a successful attack on the pigs and regain control of the farm. The name is changed back to Animal Farm and everyone lives in a happy utopia and all was well.

I think there should be a sequel to the play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by William Shakespeare. The first story ends with the two main conspirators of Caesar's assassination, Cassius and Brutus, committing suicide. The sequel starts out with Caesar waking up at the feet of Jupiter, the king of the Roman Gods. Jupiter has summoned him because he feels Caesar was unfairly betrayed by some of his closest friends. Brutus and Cassius are in the ninth and last circle of hell for the betrayal of Caesar. Jupiter gets permission from Pluto, the god of death, for Caesar to battle through the nine levels of hell to get to those who betrayed him. Caesar can select from a plethora of advanced weapons from the gods. He picks a flaming bow staff for his weapon of choice. He battles his way through each level full of nefarious people and malicious monsters. He makes it to Brutus and Cassius and decapitates them in an epic and tremendous battle. He brings the head of his betrayers back to Jupiter. This legendary squeal would be called Julius Caesar:Reloaded (From the publisher of Ethan Frome: Reloaded)

...what if Edna in "The Awakening" came back from the dead?
Ho. Lee. Crap.

The story would be about Leonce despairing over the death of his beloved wife, Edna. He tries to retrace her life to find out what she was thinking and doing before she died, and does what some would call, "creeping." He would discover Edna's affairs with Robert and Arobin, and confront them and they fight. It's like a cat fight, except with big, burly men.

Eventually Arobin says that "he's had it with this world" and uses his magic, the same magic used to lure in Edna, back from the dead. She comes back as a zombie, and gets shunned by Robert again, because she's a zombie and that is definitely not the right thing to do. I mean, marrying a zombie?

The story then explodes into a violent love triangle, ending with Edna getting back together with Leonce as a freaky zombie lady. She is still unsatisfied either way and kills herself again.

You know it'd be epic, and the audience would be incredibly happy with the ending, and that's all that matters?

I haven't read Speak since sophomore year but it was such a powerful book that I feel like it needs some attention. However, in the sequel, there has to be a twist or change in plot because the last thing this world needs is more rapists getting away with it. The sequel would have a strong willed woman to kick this rapists butt. Not to sound like a complete feminist but women are becoming equal to men including the muscular strength (women body builder's freak me out). I also hate when sequels that include new people because its just a ripoff of the first one so I would have to say that Melinda has another run in but overcomes it or have it relate to someone in her life.

A book that I think really needs a sequal is The Hobit. It would be wicked awesome to learn more about Bilbo's famous adventures. This time around Bilbo could venture out to the the dark icey edges of middle earth. The book has depiced fire and brimestone, great plaines deep dark caverns and epic mountain chains but ad far ise snow, and ice are concerned they dont seem to exist. J.R.R Tolken has presented some truely mind blowing battle scense throughout the LOTR series and I think that a new snowy invironment would present a great blank canvas to yet another monumentous battle scene. The new enemy could be a hord of ice elves that seperated from the rest of the race and are supplying runes for saurons evil powers. I wouldalso like to see alot more back story for golum and would love to see him being more involved in the story line and explain why he cathces up to frodo so early on in the LOTR series. I think A Hobits Tale 2 would be quite the amazing book.

I want "Go Ask Alice" to have a sequel. Obviously it cannot be written by the same girl, based on the end, but I think that another diary from another person could work. I absolutely loved that book. Maybe this time could be a boy`s diary and follow his life. Itwould have to be just as alarming to the reader as the original. It would be called "Go Ask Andy" or something along the same line. It would have to open people`s eyes to the fact that this stuff really does happen and it`s not fictional. I think that is why I liked the book so much; because itt was a real girl`s diary.
