The song "Kings and Queens" by 30 Seconds to Mars is about new beginnings. The hopeful tone is portrayed with the use of contrasting diction. Although the speaker portrays the dark and painful realities of the world with the negative diction of "Desperate", "broken", "fight", "victims", "lesser", "Hopeless", "taken", "stole", "blood", "pain", "defense", "darkness", and "hell", the speaker proclaims that we have to overcome humanity's shortcomings. Because we are all human and make mistakes, we our own "victims", so the speaker says people have to ask for redemption and begin fresh, as seen with the speaker's transition from using "We were" to "We are" to show the change from being a victim to the sins of "man" to the sons of the "Father", or God. Acting like "children", we learn new "lessons" everyday that will help us to learn and grown. With the positive dictionof"kings","queens","promise","new","heaven", and "dreams", the speaker wishes to inspire others by saying that after going through all of the bad aspects of out lives, we are now ready to be the "kings and queens", rulers and controllers of our own lives.

In the song "kings and Queens" by 30 Seconds to Mars is all about the contrast between what is right and wrong, what is fun and what is boring. how society is throwing morals and boudires out the window for the sake of "haveing fun". in the lyrics "We were the victims of ourselves
Maybe the children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell
Heaven and Hell" They believe that that being bad is fun and they are a new breed that has this lenient god that allows them to go about and do this evil things withough it being known as sin.The song goes on to contrast words like Darkness, Hell, Blood and pain with words like Queen, King, promise, new and heaven. This only helps emphisise the idea that although this "new breed" is breaking the rules and is the result of a "new god" that there is still some innocenece and goodness to them. The only delema is knowing the difference between sin and fun.

30 Seconds to Mars' song, "Kings and Queens" concerns someone who has made a mistake and has to live with what they have done. In the first half of the song it is about someone making mistakes, and as the song progresses it says how they have learned their lessons and their life is begninng, "The age of man is over A darkness comes and all These lessons that we learned here Have only just begun." The tone presents itself in a didactic way, because it is almost as if the speaker is trying to say that he has learned from his mistakes when he was younger, and he is not going to make them again. He reinforces this didactic tone through repetition, he writes, "We were the kings and queens of promise We were the victims of ourselves Maybe the children of a lesser God
Between Heaven and Hell Heaven and Hell" and he keeps repeating "We are the kings We are the queens." The repetition that is seen throughout the poem is basically saying that you are a victim of yourself, and how we are not as great as God, but in a way we are still innocent because we are between heaven and hell. This successfully backs up the tone becuase it is teaching the speaker that even though he has made mistakes, he can still learn from them.

This song sharply contrasts just about everything in the song. The song begins with "The sound of a fight. Father has spoken", which serves to set the basic understanding as something that is not minor, but major. Since it was a fight and the song is called "Kings and Queens", I picture the fight as a fight of war, and many people believe God has a part in war. The tone of this piece is very mellow and powerful due to the altering diction, and also altering notes in the actual song. At some points, the music is soft while at other times there are large crescendos and louder music. Two literary devices are diction and imagery. Diction such as, "heaven and hell" and "kings and queens" the author clearly juxtaposes innocence and experience, kind of like our William Blake poems. Heaven and queens serve to be more innocent, considering the queen is not as ruler-like as the King, or even sounds as violent. However, hell and King should more experienced and manly. Imagery such as, "we stole our new lives through blood and pain" and "a darkness comes" show a darker, more intense image, such as War. The title of the album is "This is War", so I think this song deals with a lot of war. I think it is about showing that there is always different sides in war and that no side ever really wins because it goes back and forth so many times.

The song "Kings and Queens" by 30 Seconds to Mars concerns war and the speaker's opinion on it. Throughout most of the song he seems desperate, however by the end he is more hopeful. The diction in this piece is typically dark, including fight, victims, hell, hopeless, stole, blood, pain, and lesser. The repetition of this dark diction adds to the feeling of desperation. There is also a juxtaposition of numerous elements, the most obvious example being heaven and hell. By the end of the song, the tone switches, but only in the last four lines. Instead of saying they "were" the kings and queens, it switches to they "are" the kings and queens, signifying a more positive and hopeful tone.

I think the song "Kings and Queens" is about looking back on mistakes that they have made in their lives. The tone is reflective with slight feelings of regret or sadness, but it is not completely melancholy or depressed, as there is a shift in tone that reveals a sense of hope. The diction shows how they are looking back with some sadness, with words such as, "hopeless," "pain," "darkness," "fight," and "broken." Also, the words are in past tense and first person pronouns are used such as, "we were the kings and queens," "we were the victims of ourselves," "we stole our new lives," and, "we've learned." These phrases suggest that they are looking back with some regret of what they've done. However, the very last stanza repeats, "we are the kings, we are the queens." For this reason, a bit of hope shines through, and changes the entire song so that it is not a depressing piece.

The song "Kings and Queens" is about taking ownership of our lives during the hardships in the world. There is a sense of hopelessness as portrayed by the diction with words such as "dark", "desperate and broken", and "victims of ourselves". Yet there are instances of strength in the speaker, like only being able to rise up after hitting rock bottom. The sense of initiative is apparent through the line "we stole our new lives through blood and pain in defense of our dreams". There was a sense of hopelessness but then there is a shift because of an arising confidence.
Even the video shows a massive group of people banding together, regardless of how different each of them are. In the end of the song, a chorus of people are singing, giving the song a powerful and inspirational tone.

"Kings and Queens" by 30 Seconds to Mars is a song about the pain and hardships that one is going through. It talks about how they used to be the everything and then it all went to hell basically. The tone of this piece is very defeated and hopeless and holds a very negative feeling with the words and what he is saying. While it could have been construed as a hopeful song, it is actually the complete opposite

Kings and Queens by 30 Seconds to Mars concerns the image of humanity and what humanity has to offer and destroy. By using powerful strong diction the singer conveys negative acts performed by man. Such words like hopeless, taken, blood, pain, and victims. These words convey a negative image of man that shows we do nothing but destroy. The lines "we stole our new lives, through blood and pain, in defense of our dreams" is an important line showing that every man fights for his ideals and because of that there is no peace. Only violence results from that and this important use of figurative language allows us to see the image of man from the singer's point of view. Yet later there is a line saying that "these lessons have just begun". This part here gives off hope saying that there is still a way to achieve peace and stop the destruction. Also the constant reference to kings and queens may in fact be a message to leaders of the world to actually do their job and find a way for their country to live in harmony with others.

The song "Kings and Queens" by 30 Seconds to Mars is about someone looking back on mistakes they have made and trying to explain that they have learned from them. I would say the tone of the piece is hopeful because the speaker realizes what they have done wrong and has since changed. The diction in this piece is very dark, with words such as "stole," "blood," "victims," "darkness," "hopeless," and "victims." This diction shows a sense of desperation and longing for change, which turns around when the tone changes to a more hopeful one. This occurs when the speaker goes from saying "they were the kings and queens" to "they are the kings and queens."

In the song "Kings and Queens" by 30 Seconds to Mars there is a focus on past experiences and memories as well as the promise of a better future. Two distinct tones are expressed, with the beginning yielding a reflective tone which then shifts to a hopeful tone at the conclusion. These tones are achieved primarily through the use of diction. At the start of the song, a memory is described as the "night" that is "desperate" and "broken" convey the speaker's remembrance of the past and how he views it to be a bad memory. He then says how "Father" has spoken to bring a religious connotation to the piece, suggesting that society needs to look to God for assistance. The chorus contains diction that starts to signify the hopeful tone by mentioning "promise" as well as "Heaven" and "Hell". This juxtaposes the good and the bad to imply that the bad of the past will change in the future because the world has balance. As the song progresses, more instances of hope are seen with mentions of "new" lives and lessons that have "begun". This shows that the speaker believes in the future and is optimistic about change. While the phrase "we were the kings and queens" was repeated in the song, at the very end it changes to we "are" the kings and queens to finally conclude that their is hope for the world.

The song "Kings and Queens" by 30 seconds to Mars concerns the speaker looking back on his past reflecting some of the mistakes he has made. The tone is not depressing even though you can tell there is some regret of the past , "We were the victims of ourselves", but then he defends his reasoning with "in defense of our dreams". The negative diction of hopeless, pain, and darkness convey the regret in the lyrics. The syntax also helps support it is pass regret because it is written in past tense,"we were the kings and queens","we stole our new lives," and, "we've learned." Towards the end of the piece there is a tone shift. It become present tense showing there is hope, "we are the kings","the age of man is over", and "only just begun". The end of this piece allows people to know it is not a complete depressing poem. They have made mistakes but that is in the past and it is now time to focus on the present.

“Kings and Queens” by 30 Seconds to Mars is about the beginning of something new. The speaker talks about a lot of negative things throughout the video, but there is still a hopefully tone to it. The tone can also be seen through the sky in the music video at the beginning it’s just starting to get dark, which a sign of something coming to an end and when it’s night in the video it means that something has ended and all of those people were aimlessly roaming around. Then at the end is when the new beginning has started. Also, there is a lot of dark and negative diction throughout the song. There are many such as broken, desperate, fight, pain, etc. These words could be referring to how awful a certain period of time in the past could have been awful. The time period would have been in the past because the entire song is in the past tense. The diction of the song adds to the sky seen in the video that it is a dark time, but things will get better. A possible theme for this song is that things are bad before they can get better.
